Based upon our Jan -
April 1998 prioritization activities, we
identified two significant issues:
Domestic Violence and Teen Pregnancy. Two
work groups were formed in May
1998. The Domestic
Violence Work Group was co-chaired by Gary
Crane and Peter Epperson. This active work
group can be proud of their two years of
accomplishments: The culmination of the local community effort was the creation of Turning Pointe: Domestic Violence Services. In 2001, Turning Pointe began to provide services to victims of domestic violence. These services include emergency shelter assistance, legal advocacy, support group, community/public education, and the organization of an annual Domestic Violence Summit in October of each year. Turning Pointe is working toward achieving the community vision of a Woman’s/Family Shelter for Victims of Domestic Violence. In 2006, Turning Pointe broke ground on this dream. This shelter is expected to be operational in late 2007/early 2008. |
